MIXED A Colorful Story by Arree Chung is such a neat book for learning colour theory. It’s been the inspiration behind our primary and secondary colours activities these past few days.
To keep things interesting I incorporated a blend of science, play and learning by getting Ayah to make some home made play dough with me.
The process was super simple, we just added all the ingredients (except the food colouring) into a pot and let it form into a ball over medium heat in a matter of 5-7 minutes. After that we divided it into 3 parts to add the food colouring just to make the primary colours. Finally Ayah let her creativity take control as she mixed the primary colours to make the secondary colours while using the story book as a guide.
The other activity she was engaged in was learning the Arabic names of all these colours. We’ve been listening to the Arabic colours song by #zakyandfriends on repeat. Also the book Al-Alwan, Al-Ashkaal, Al-Arqam by @asmawahab is an amazing reference for little ones. So are @dearmuslimchild colour flash cards!
Before moving on she played a matching game using her colour wheel- a great way to ensure she learned the Arabic names of each colour.
The last activity was finger painting which was heaps of fun 🙂 Loved how she enjoyed the process of making new colours. Overall a successful intro to basic colour concepts.
